s-001-2

in-transition

So I was in Texas for the first week of this year. Made some new sweet friends, ate some amazing food, enjoyed stunning weather, stayed with the sweetest family, and jammed a bit of music, and really experienced a heavy feeling of a major crossroad in life. I played my first song idea when I first started playing piano a couple years ago. Originally the song idea was named after the parable of the pearl collector. I read that parable and was really inspired by it on so many levels. (obviously, my blog title too.) So I made a melancholy version early on, where it was very slow, hypnotic like all my other ideas, but mostly very eerie and mystical. It was cool in the beginning, but when I jammed with theseĀ  three sweet ladies (Sarah, Megan & Blaire) they helped give me a different feel. So this is my weak attempt, sadly without Sarah’s brilliant guitar thing she did.

I honestly should spend more time working on anything I create before posting it. I’m bad at that. I spend a couple hours making a rough cut and then post it. At least any frequent visitors might see some growth, mmmmaybe a little growth.

and yet another pensive hypnotic song idea…

Lately…

In Music, Thoughts & Ramblings on August 10, 2008 at 2:37 am

My social life has been slowly fading.

This is a good and bad thing… Psalm 84 & the writings of Solomon have invaded most of my thinking and decision making.

Another thing I have gotten back into was making music, I love it, but it’s mostly just one venue where I can contemplate and meditate on the things of God…. but when making music, keeping God as the center can sometimes be quite a battle.

You can check out my stuff on myspace or facebook… i have more up on myspace, but i hardly maintain myspace or work on the songs. But it’s my new obsession as of the last few days.

My stuff is pretty repetative and hypnotic, sometimes more annoying than good…

Psalm 84 is so good. The pilgrimage, the valley of Baca… anything lacking the slightest bit of Him is vain. At least this is the season I’m in. I love and hate the wilderness. I think I now understand King David’s “my heart and flesh cry out” line.
